We have introduced the practice of Mindfulness at Hazelbury into our PSHE lessons and weekly assemblies. Mindfulness helps to improve emotional health and wellbeing. Our aim is to equip pupils with strategies that support emotional regulation and understand how to apply them in a variety of situations.
Being mindful means paying attention in the present moment. When children practice Mindfulness they can see their thoughts, feelings, motivations, reactions and responses with greater clarity and understanding. Through this practice, the children can learn to pause before reacting and therefore learn to choose the appropriate response for the moment they are in.
Recent research has highlighted that Mindfulness is linked to an increased ability to focus when learning and greater resilience (one of our Hazelbury Values).
