    Hazelbury Parliament is launched!

This year we have launched Hazelbury Parliament!  Our Parliament has two Year 6 MPs from each family - Ruby, Topaz, Opal, Sapphire and Emerald. On Friday 16th September we held our very first Hazelbury Parliament Polling Day. Every child had the opportunity to elect a Year 6 child in their Hazelbury family to become their first MP.

The children experienced how it would feel to vote, from receiving their own Polling card, being checked against the electoral roll and then voting in a booth before securely placing their ballot paper in their family box.  During the week pupils learnt about the importance of democracy and the rule of law, while the Year 6 MP candidates campaigned across the school highlighting the reasons why they would be an ideal candidate. Kate Osamor, our local Labour MP, visited us and explained the importance of democracy and using their vote wisely.  She shared her journey as a politician and answered some questions from the children.

Congratulations to our newly elected family MPs: Amy and Amari (Topaz Family), Deniz and Dolunay (Sapphire Family), Sanjana and Shola (Emerald Family), Claudia and Iva (Opal Family), Joseph and Ellie (Ruby Family).
