A Trip Back in Time

Nile class visit the National Archives to learn about Victorian history.

On Tuesday 7th May, our class went to the National Archives at Kew to learn about Victorian history. We discovered a lot about the crimes committed by children in Victorian times, and how the children were punished. We investigated documents from Wandsworth prison to find out about ‘hard labour’ and how the inmates were treated. Hannah, who led our workshop, also told us about the history of the National Archives. It is the most secure building in the country, as it contains very important historical documents. The Domesday book is there and it is valued at £1 billion! It was a fantastic day, and we loved being ‘history detectives!’
